Our Writing process Welcome to our Magazine project, we hope you enjoy your stay as you navigate through our carefully selected pieces. We had fun creating, editing and revising as a team. Our goal was to introduce various Social Justice issues, that range from Public Breastfeeding,Education , Politics in the Work Place and The Patriot Act. These issues pertain to a majority of people in our communities, we have made an effort to provide a little bit of something for everyone to read. Throughout our journey we have worked hard towards creating a space that is engaging to our readers by including a variety of text, animations, graphs, videos, Narratives, Profiles, Informative pieces and more.

Discoveries Our goal was to create a magazine that was easy for our readers to read and understand. When working in a group its important to always keep the end result in mind. Communication is key, in doing group projects especially when making decisions. For example, coming up with a title for our Home page required all of us to come together and decide on the best one that fit the magazine and its content overall. Taking a page and starting from scratch is really fun, when one of us got stuck there was usually someone else who had something to contribute that made it much easier. Writing is fun, and gives us the chance to create change or make a difference in our communities. Conducting research was the most critical aspect to coming up with a well written piece adding credibility. Often times when doing research on our topics we would find material that would help add to our pieces in a way that helped readers get a better understanding of what the message is trying to convey and gave us supporting evidence to our claims. For example, take a look at the Patriot Act and see how the writer was able to get the message across by giving readers an insight on events, and why the Patriot Act needs to be revised.

RecommendationsWe recommend having weekly meetings with the group, in order to make sure everyone is on the same page and things are going according to plan. hangouts.google.com was a great tool that gave our group the flexibility of meeting together via web chat, at a time that was convenient for us all.
Another tool found especially helpful was our schools library database libweb.slcc.edu Providing us with endless scholarly articles and the option to narrow down the search. The best parts is, they include citations which makes it much easier on the student when it comes to gathering up your sources. Avoid sourcing from wikipedia because it can be edited by anyone, people can create stories about them selves or add false information. |
